Everyone working within the NHS has a legal duty to keep information about you confidential.

The practice complies with Data Protection and Access to Medical Records legislation. Identifiable information about you will be shared with others in the following circumstances:

  • To provide further medical treatment for you e.g. from district nurses and hospital services.
  • To help you get other services e.g. from the social work department. This requires your consent.
  • When we have a duty to others e.g. in child protection cases Anonymised patient information will also be used at local and national level to help the Health Board and Government plan services e.g. for diabetic care.

If you do not wish anonymous information about you to be used in such a way, please let us know.

Reception and administration staff require access to your medical records in order to do their jobs. These members of staff are bound by the same rules of confidentiality as the medical staff.

The Practice is fully computerised and is registered with the Data Protection Act.

If you are undergoing an intimate examination, your doctor or nurse will ask if you require a chaperone. It’s a chaperone’s job to provide extra security and privacy during intimate examinations or procedures. If you have not been offered a chaperone but you would still like to be accompanied, please ask the doctor or another member of staff and one will be arranged for you.

 

Our chaperones are available to all of our patients regardless of the gender of the patient or practitioner, and every chaperone is fully trained, holding enhanced DBS checks.We will always take steps to ensure that the privacy and confidentiality of our patients are maintained.

 

Please note that we cannot provide chaperones for home visits.

Fees are chargeable at BMA standard rates for certain services e.g. private health claim forms, passport certificates, holiday cancellations, driving and private medical examinations, sickness certificates in the first seven days of illness and some travel medication. Official Subject Access Requests (SARs) are guaranteed to be completed within 28 days of receiving the request, and it is our aim to complete other private letters and reports within this timeframe as well.
